Sublimation Tumblers for Beginners Step by Step How To Tutorial!
I haven’t done a tumbler tutorial in a while and, I feel like it is a craft almost anyone can do with the Holidays coming up!
And it’s so fun and pretty easy! I am going to show you the method I used in this tik tok! But, this tutorial is pretty specific to people who do NOT have a sublimation printer or a mug press. I am going to show you how to DIY without all of that.
Now, Let's Gather Your Materials:
I am assuming you have a Sublimation printer already, however, if you DO NOT, You will be able to buy already printed transfers from my website soon.
Sublimation paper, I always recommend HTVRONT Sublimation Paper- the 8.5x11 size will do for this project! or your transfer you bought preprinted - Now, This tutorial is on a 20 ounce SKINNY Tumbler-- The measurements are about 9.3 inches x 8.2 inches.
Heat Tape and if you real fancy, the heat tape dispenser!
Scissors, any plain good old cutting scissors will work but I love these ones I get in the pack from Amazon! However, You will see me use my paper cutter
Silicone Bands These are reusable and will help you make a flawless cup!
Oh, and Tumblers! If you plan to make and sell, you will want to find a great bulk price. HOWEVER, these are the ones you will catch me ordering on prime in a 10 pack! The Joyclub Sublimation Tumblers come with the lid, metal straw, straw cleaners, and grip for the bottom! They sublimate just as nice as any and are at a great price point for gifts or for those who use making tumblers as a side gig!
I am going to use a toaster oven in this tutorial, Just like this one. In fact it is the exact one I use. I actually prefer this method!
A friend of mine uses THIS mug press by HTVRONT- The HTVRONT Auto Tumbler Heat Press Machine- This one does not require you to adjust the pressure! This can really be a big issue for beginners, so this would be a great starter machine.
1) Preheat Your toaster oven to 350 Degrees, and CLEAN your cup of any oils or finger prints after you remove the lid and straw. I just got these prep pads but you literally use windex.
2) If you printed your own design using Canva, or whatever- Just make sure you cut your transfer to fit the measurements are about 9.3 inches x 8.2 inches. When mine finally launch, They will be cut to fit this format with a little space in case you need to adjust on the seamless ones.
3) Tape your Mirrored Image onto your cup as tight as you can! Here is a photo for reference:
4) You REALLY need to use the bands for pressure!
4) Now, You will put your cup in the oven on its side-- Seam up first- 3 minutes and 45 seconds. Then, Flip, and bake another 3 minutes and 45 seconds.
You can watch me do it in this video:
5) Now, Pull the cup and let it cool almost completely before revealing!
