DIY fall Decor from a gal who doesn't know jack Sh*!
Hey Ladies! I am SERIOUSLY trying to learn about home decor, Crafting it, and showing you how and where to use it--- ON A BUDGET!
I am 6 days until our fall open house at the boutique, and I had to spend a LONG day making at least ONE display that was fall NOT Halloween!
This blog contains affiliate links. That means when you click on some of the links in this post and you make a purchase I earn a small commission at no cost to you. All my opinions are my own.
Here is my finished display!!!
Honestly, I have never decorated my home in any way, but as I get older that is CHANGING! However, it can be costly to start to let's learn and start together. I figured the best time to start would be now because I love fall!
The only thing in this phot that I cannot reuse is the pumpkins! I went to Mrs. Carols (Do it Best Hardware in West Jefferson, Ohio), and DEFINITLEY brought home some pumpkins. Look me holding this thing!
Anyways, I gathered several of the white ones and several orange.
I came back, and A buddy of mine, Red (Kristin to you people) of Pittman's Candle Co., Attempted to stain my crates (We didn't have enough but it got is started. The color I had was American Walnut, BUT, You can't even get the kind I had anymore, So I recommend this wiping Stain by old masters, and she used a brush but looking now, I would recommend using a lint free cloth in addition to your brush (tutorial coming).
Crates
So, You can get crates pretty much anywhere! You can buy them already stained, or painted! Look at yard sales and thrift stores. If you are like me, you just want to find a good deal on some and start your project in like 5 minutes. In that case, I recommend these as I have bought them several times for different things. It comes with three crates in 3 different sizes!
These ones of course are unfinished, which is why you might want that stain I mention above.
If you would like to skip the staining but want finished crates, I TOTALLY recommend this set These are still perfect for DIY fall decor in your home.
Now, That you created some height- Florals and garlands
Even in my limited experience, you want to be careful with cheap florals if they will up close and center- They can look cheap. I found that this looked great for my small budget--
This one comes in a pack of 2 6 foot garland- I would recommend getting two packs per display or space. If you preserve these well you can use for a few years-- if they are going outside you should spray them with Scotch Outdoor Water shield or some other kind of outdoor seal spray and they will definitely last. Actually, Do that with all of your outdoor fall decor.
The other greenery's I have researched to be appropriate fall greens are: Eucalyptus, Lambs Ear, and pine. The pine you could use through Christmas if you decorate it right. I am sure there are more. As you can tell I use this Eucalyptus EVERWHERE! You can get it in the garland (photo below) or in the stems like I have in other photos.
Next, are beads like this- Bead garlands can be used to decorate a mantel, bookshelf, or dining room.
Here are a few ways I have used them- There are literally a HUNDRED ways.
I recommend a 39 inch garland in neutral colors, but you can also paint them with acrylic paint ( Tutorial coming on that)
The next basic thing I think is in budget for a little budget is pillows! You can sublimate your own (Tutorial coming), or there are a TON of options for cases on amazon! I would suggest these inserts, and you can just change the cases. I used burlap 18x18 pillow cases on this one I made-- If you are going to sublimate your own, the ones i used in the photo are linked here
These FILLER balls are so Staple because you can use them everywhere! They come in several different styles but here are mine! You can also watch this tip to make them go a litter further here on my you tube video
If you do not already have a couple of neutral baskets around, you could start out with these ones
This is still a work in progress and I will add to it all season!
