Baked Italian Sausages

Baked Italian Sausages

Dinner doesn’t get much easier (or tastier) than this baked Italian sausage and veggie dinner! Italian sausage, potatoes, sweet peppers, and onions all roast together in perfect way-- The Dutch Oven. It’s a one-pot wonder that’s perfect for feeding your family on a weeknight.

This easy baked Italian Sausage recipe is so simple and straightforward: it roasts juicy sausages and seasoned vegetables together so they become browned, caramelized, and buttery soft in the Dutch oven!

While the combination of sausage, sweet peppers, and onions is a classic dish in this family-- It is usually made on the stovetop, Italian sausage baked in the oven is even better because it doesn’t require a lot of dishes to wash when you don’t want to deal with a mess after eating.

I made a large batch since I was cooking for a crowd, but you can easily adjust this to fit your needs! Feel free to switch up the seasonings or add your own twist. Here’s what I used:

4 bell peppers, sliced into strips and then halved for bite-sized pieces
1 medium onion, chopped into bite-sized pieces
7 red skin potatoes, diced into bite-sized chunks
1 clove of minced garlic
Salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste
Olive oil
And, of course, Italian sausages!

If you’re using a Dutch oven, set that bad boy to 375 (if you're going with a regular 9x13 dish, crank it up to 400). While the oven does its thing, chop up those veggies, toss them right in the Dutch oven with some olive oil and seasoning, and give it all a good mix. I just grab a silicone spatula, drizzle the oil in, and stir like I know what I’m doing. Now, no judgment—but I totally grab a raw veggie and taste it to make sure I didn’t under-season like a rookie. It’s called quality control!

Once that’s done, just lay the sausages right on top—no overlapping, but they can snuggle up next to each other! Cover it up and pop it in the oven. If you're using a baking dish instead of a Dutch oven, just throw some aluminum foil over the top and you’re good to go.

Foil Covered Bake: Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour if you are using a foil covered baking dish. Remove the foil, bake for 15 minutes, then flip the sausage links over and bake for another 10 – 15 minutes or until golden brown and reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.

Dutch oven style: Pop the lid on and bake at 375°F for 45 minutes to an hour. Then, take the lid off, let it bake for another 15 minutes, flip those sausages over, and give it another 10-15 minutes until they’re golden brown and cooked through. Technically, they should hit 165°F (you know, for the rule followers), but if you grew up on home cooking, you already know what a good, done sausage looks
